Butler County Health Care Center has an opening for a  fulltime Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist. This position assists Laboratory Manager and other Laboratory Staff in collecting patient samples and performing clinical laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases.  Associates degree from a two-year and/or technical college required (MLT) or Bachelors degree (MT).  On call rotation schedule including some weekends and holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Includes the following.  Other duties may be assigned by the manager.

Understand and comply with the requirements of the Hospital’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, The Compliance Policy, all organization-wide policies for compliance and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.

Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Hospital policy and as requested by supervisor.

Consistently support the compliance Program through personal example; the provision of day-to-day instruction and correction to employees in regard to compliance-related issues; application of appropriate discipline as required for compliance violations; and ongoing monitoring of activities and work product in areas of responsibility with respect to compliance-related issues.

  1. Reviews tests results to ensure quality control.
  2. Monitors and maintains Quality Assurance Program as defined by Butler County Health Care Center.
  3. Reviews worksheets and test results to ensure quality results, proper correlation of patient data to patient condition, and proper reporting protocols.
  4. Maintains competency and proficiency on all phlebotomy procedures, keeping current with policy, technical and procedural changes.
  5. Draws blood from patient’s vein, artery, finger or heel, observing the principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
  6. Conducts analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine and spinal fluid to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
  7. Studies blood cells, their numbers, and morphology.
  8. Performs blood group, type and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes.
  9. Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer.
  10. Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data.
  11. Performs routine preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment according to schedules and procedures.
  12. Verifies instrument function by checks, calibration, and documentation.
  13. Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance performed.
